The album was inspired by the relationship between astronomer Carl Sagan and producer Ann Druyan, whose photo is on the album’s cover. They worked on the PBS series Cosmos together and their relationship was immortalized in NASA’s Voyager Golden Record.
"The conceptual heart of things is really important to me," the Avalanches’ Robbie Chater said in a press release. "I can’t just be blindly creative, I need to find a feeling and a deeply personal place that gives me the energy to start making a record and a story to share. Wildflower changed so much over 16 years, whereas with this album, we knew what it was about right at the beginning, and then we did it, and it’s done." https://bit.ly/3bjtyV2

Atwood Magazine wrote that from a music standpoint, the ebbs and flows of We Will Always Love You are similar to Since I Left You and Wildflower. Songs flow together, and while there are hundreds of styles, instruments, and ideas at play, each song is interconnected to every other. One major difference alluded to earlier is how ungrounded this album feels compared to their other works. We Will Always Love You, in connection with the interstellar themes mentioned, seems very distant and airy. The album is carried by a constant state of ambiance, and while this is customary for The Avalanches to meld together, on this album they seem less like transitions and more like genuine connections between songs.

Australia's The Avalanches' Robbie Chater shares of this track, "It was almost like a throwback to the music we grew up and were listening to before we made ‘Since I Left You’ – that classic house feel of the Crydamoure label and the first Basement Jaxx album ['Remedy', 1999]. When we found the Salty Miller sample, 'Music Makes Me High', it reminded me of 'Red Alert' by Basement Jaxx and 'The music keeps on playing on and on'.
"We thought, 'Can we turn into that kind of thing?' It took a while actually, but then we found the Devoted Soul sample and it just started to click. We’ve got better at making sample-based music. We would have tried to make this song way back when and it probably wouldn’t have banged as hard." https://bit.ly/2Zb4MQq

We Will Always Love You is the Avalanches' third full-length record, following 2016's Wildflower. Robbie Chater and Toni Di Blasi (the duo behind the Avalanches) were heavily influenced by the Golden Record, an audio time capsule aboard NASA's Voyager spacecraft, during the making of this album.
The woman on the cover of this album is Ann Druyan, the creative director of the Voyager Interstellar Message Project and Carl Sagan's widow.
--They're sampling Salty Miller's 1980 song "Music Makes Me High' in this song.

In the Pitchfork review of The Avalanches' 'We Will Always Love You' they said:
"Whether sampling or playing their own instruments, they favor rich tone colors and ultra-vivid timbres; the high end is awash in chimes, glockenspiel, and children’s choirs. Glance at the sample credits and you may read names like the Roches and the Carpenters and Vashti Bunyan; close your eyes and what you’ll see behind closed lids are rainbows and Day-Glo, fireflies and flax—all opalescent everything, inside and out."
