Good morning, happy Tuesday, and welcome to The Midday show with the fabulous Cheryl Waters! Thanks so much for listening! -- Cheryl hosted a live performance by Squid in the KEXP studio last November: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-JWNggMB58&t=243s -- Here's a review of this song that both highlights the drudgery of much work and affirms human worth: https://atwoodmagazine.com/stc-squid-the-cleaner-song-review/

Did you see Squid? They just had us dancing in the KEXP studio. Keep your eyes peeled for the session on our YouTube channel:) "The Cleaner" was inspired by the band, originally from Brighton, England, moving to London. "Match Bet," another song from the band's debut EP, Town Centre, was a KEXP Song of the Day, which you can download for free: https://bit.ly/3zsssQ8. "We are the first generation that’s been brought up with the internet in developing periods of our lives," brass player and bassist Laurie Nankivell says. "It means that genre is much less definable, it’s not about living in the same city, it’s having something else that draws you together. But it does frustrate me when we’ve been put in the post-punk genre. Post-anything is quite frustrating; it feels like you’re anchored to a movement in the 70s which we don’t have a massive link with." https://bit.ly/2Vvc54B https://squiduk.bandcamp.com/
