I don't have a request, but I had to tell you this...My husband called me from the car this morning and told me I had to turn on KEXP, that it's a big, joyful stream of music. I didn't realize how much I needed this music right now, I'm crying so many happy tears listening to your playlist this morning as I watch the inauguration. There is some hope again. Thank you so much John Richards, you have made my day!! -Jess ======== The Rising album was partially inspired by a stranger who told Springsteen in the wake of 9/11, "We need you now." - https://bit.ly/2XXcvRl

Bruce Springsteen responded to the attacks on September 11th with this song and album. "One of the most powerful images of the 11th, that I’d read in the paper, some of the people coming down were talking about the emergency workers who were ascending,” said Springsteen on “Nightline” at the time of the album’s release in June of 2002. “The idea of those guys going up the stairs, up the stairs, ascending, ascending. I mean you could be ascending a smoky staircase, you could be in the afterlife, moving on.” You are not alone. There is such goodness in this world. Donate to KEXP today: https://www.kexp.org/donate/

Springsteen wrote this in response to the September 11 attacks on America. The entire album deals with it in some way, often from the point of view of the victims. "The Rising" album was partially inspired by a stranger who told Springsteen in the wake of 9/11, "We need you now.": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i-fiRgbpr4
