you wanted a hit
by LCD Soundsystem
(4 plays) | (0 fans)

The longest song on This Is Happening at almost eight minutes, this is a riposte to anyone expecting LCD leader James Murphy to come up with a radio friendly, three minute pop song. "So you wanted a hit, well maybe we don't do hits," he sings. "I've tried and I've tried. It ends up feeling kind of wrong.": https://genius.com/Lcd-soundsystem-you-wanted-a-hit-lyrics -- This was co-written by Hot Chip and sometimes LCD guitarist, Al Doyle.

I'll Come Too
by James Blake

The bird-tastic music video was directed by Matt Meech, renowned for his work as an editor on BBC's Planet Earth and The Blue Planet. Utilizing footage from Planet Earth II, the clip follows the fictional love story of unrequited love between a penguin and an albatross. Blake had the idea for the video after spotting a photograph of two birds taking flight in a hotel lobby. He told the BBC: "You could see their wings about to unfurl and I had this light bulb moment of, 'Why don't we use animals to tell the story somehow?'" The singer contacted Meech through his website, asking if there was any appropriate footage in the archives. Said Meech: "I remembered some footage that we didn't use on Planet Earth II that I thought might be useful. Both birds look quirky, elegant and beautiful, the Albatrosses have an unusual mating dance, which the penguins watch from afar and the mysterious backdrop of the Snares island, off the coast of Southern New Zealand, is a truly unique landscape.": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOJ5HYGIqlY

Happy Wednesday and welcome to The Afternoon show with Larry Mizell, Jr. KEXP is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and, each week, beginning on Wednesday, we're spotlighting the music of a particular year in our history. This week, it's 2019! Thanks so much for being here. -- This was NYC producer Michael Baltra's debut album, released in 2019. It was entitled "Ted" after his late father. "It started out as an idea lacking focus—to just release an album," he says, "but took on greater meaning when my father passed away somewhat unexpectedly. The album went through many phases, but in the end staying true to my emotions along this whirlwind of a ride seemed like the proper way to do it rather than to conceptualize something that I couldn't even put into words at the time.": https://96andforeverrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ted -- Seoul rapper/producer/DJ/singer 박혜진 park hye jin collaborated with Baltra on "Ahead of Time."
