#9 on John Peel's list of his top 20 favorite records of all time for The Guardian. -- https://tinyurl.com/2p93sb7c "Hendrix was one of the earliest artists to benefit from Peel's patronage, his album of BBC sessions providing an enthralling snapshot of the excitement he generated in Britain in the mid-60s. The only autographs Peel ever requested were those of Hendrix, blues singer Lightnin' Hopkins... and Liverpool legends Billy Liddell and Bill Shankly."

John Peel was a huge fan of the Pixies, and invited them to play five live sessions on his show. He also featured tracks from the band members' other projects, including solo material from Black Francis and songs by Kim Deal's group, The Breeders. He also played the entirety of their 1991 album "Trompe Le Monde" on-air -- learn more about the sessions and Peel's love for the band: https://peel.fandom.com/wiki/Pixies

#3 on John Peel's list of his top 20 favorite records of all time for The Guardian. -- https://tinyurl.com/2p93sb7c 'Billy Doherty of the Undertones remembers hearing the Ramones for the first time on Peel: "He played the full side of the first Ramones record - we suddenly felt we weren't alone. We may have been stuck in Derry with seemingly no future (man!) but the world suddenly got smaller, friendlier and full of possibilities. That's what music does for you and that was exactly what it continually did for John Peel. He recognised that the essential ingredient of the best music, and in particular to the best rock and roll, is passion."'

What Difference Does It Make?
by The Smiths

1984 album -- #7 on John Peel's list of his top 20 favorite records of all time for The Guardian. -- https://tinyurl.com/2p93sb7c "The sessions The Smiths recorded for Peel were better than those that became their first album. Guitarist Johnny Marr was quick to realise this, and so the band's Peel sessions formed the basis of the Smiths' second album, 'Hatful of Hollow'. "We would try out new songs on the [Peel] sessions and these often were the definitive version," said Marr."

Honoring legendary BBC DJ John Peel, born on this day in 1939 -- he called this his all-time favorite song, he played it twice on the first show featuring the track -- something he'd never done before The Northern Irish punk band reported that this song got them a record deal when British DJ John Peel played it on his show-even playing the song twice in a row. "Our only hope was John Peel, and we sent him a copy - that was the only copy we sent anyone" https://youtu.be/PinCg7IGqHg

Oh No
by Wet Leg

Rhian Teasdale described making the video for "Oh No": “It’s been a pretty wild ride for us these past few months, we never really thought much past actually making music and playing gigs. It's quite an odd thing to suddenly open yourself to so much criticism and praise alike. The comments that complete strangers will leave on our videos are so funny and range wildly in sentiment. Although we know it is bad for us to read them and we try to avoid it, sometimes it’s irresistible when you’re on your own; the 3am doom scroll really gets you. For this video, we have obsessively selected our favorite bits from the comments sections across our socials, the good, the bad, the ugly and have repurposed them to make something new – it has been quite cathartic actually.” https://youtu.be/qXX05S6tiRk

Someone to Love

NEW MUSIC from Michael Collins -- who has gone by many names including Run DMT, Salvia Plath, Silk Rhodes, and now Drugdealer. He'll perform at The Crocodile on November 5! Get tickets for the 21+ show: https://tinyurl.com/45ccjhff “Someone To Love” came out of an impromptu extended jam that my band and I developed show by show on the last full US tour. Then when we got home and I started working on this new stuff I realized it was one of the best moments of us naturally playing. I turned it into a fully fleshed out song about wanting to be truly loved unconditionally, and pretty instantly became my favorite thing I had written and pretty much still sits there." I Tried
by Elizabeth M. Drummond

Elizabeth M. Drummond is a founding member of Australian band Little May. Elizabeth shared: "This song started with a lo-fi hip hop loop which I played guitar over. I think I wrote and produced this song in its entirety in one day, which is rare, but also necessary for me in recent years. I will often abandon something if I don’t finish it very soon after starting,... this song is just a reflection of how I was feeling after coming out of a relationship that had run its course." -- https://tinyurl.com/3evwatz9

In an interview with NME last year Jungle spoke about the free attitude they applied to their latest album: "The older we get, the more we stop giving a fuck. The more you can release your fears of what you think you can be or what you can do, you’re just in this creative freedom. It’s why Jungle is reaching where it is and why, in our view, Jungle is reaching its creative pinnacle” -- https://bit.ly/3x3jycw https://jungle.bandcamp.com/

Confidence Man brazenly (but rather appropriately) declare on their Bandcamp, "In this world, nothing is certain except taxes, death and Confidence Man. They are unstoppable, unquenchable, undeniable, and if you get in their way, you’re gonna get hurt." "Not even a global pandemic could stop Janet, Sugar, Reggie and Clarence from producing an album so fierce, flirty and full of anthems that you might need to sit down before you hit play. Welcome to the TILT era." -- https://confidenceman.bandcamp.com/album/tilt
