"You're like medicine to me You brought sunshine to my life I was drowning in the sea of love..." Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff wrote and produced this song. Three years later, they founded Philadelphia International Records, home to The O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and many other acts that defined the Philadelphia soul sound of the '70s. -- This track was famously sampled by Biz Markie for his 1989 smash "Just a Friend", lead single from "The Biz Never Sleeps"; it was also sampled by Ghostface Killah for "Save Me Dear" in 2004, off "The Pretty Toney Album", and by Austin Mahone for "Say You're Just a Friend (featuring Flo Rida)", released on "Extended Play" in 2013

Sea Lemon will be at Chop Suey TONIGHT, Tuesday, August 23rd. She'll be at Cafe Racer on Thursday, September 22nd. Sea Lemon is the project of Seattle-based Natalie Lew. She described this song: '“Fortune Teller” is a song all about that nervous feeling when you first discover a love for someone — even a friendship type of love — and how good it feels to just tell someone how much you care for them. I think what I’d love people to take away from the song is how blissfully ignorant vulnerability can be, even just for a moment.' https://sealemonmusic.bandcamp.com

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
by The Beatles
(26 plays) | (0 fans)

Although the title was widely perceived to be a coded reference to LSD, "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" in fact took its name from a drawing of a schoolfriend by the four-year-old Julian Lennon. John Lennon revealed, "I had no idea it spelt LSD. This is the truth: my son came home with a drawing and showed me this strange-looking woman flying around. I said, 'What is it?' and he said, 'It’s Lucy in the sky with diamonds,' and I thought, 'That’s beautiful.' I immediately wrote a song about it." https://bit.ly/3oqUI3f -- Actor William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on Star Trek, covered this in his dramatic, spoken-word style. In at least one poll, this version was voted the worst Beatles cover of all time.

Remember Me
by Blue Boy
(3 plays) | (0 fans)

“Remember Me” is the 1997 hit from Scottish DJ Alexis “Lex” Blackmore under his stage name “Blue Boy”. The song is built around a 1969 track titled “Woman of the Ghetto” by Marlena Shaw, a well-known and historic American singer.: https://storyofsong.com/story/remember-me/ -- Shaw, an ever-expressive and deeply soulful singer, had been recording for some 30 years by the time of the Blue Boy record. Born Marlena Burgess in New Rochelle, New York, her first album Out Of Different Bags was released by Cadet in 1967. After two LPs with them, she released five for Blue Note between 1972 and 1976, including that live set featuring “Woman Of The Ghetto.” Her most significant US chart success didn’t come until she had left Blue Note for Columbia, when 1977’s disco-influenced album Sweet Beginnings reached No.62.

How Can I Make It OK?
by Wolf Alice
(12 plays) | (0 fans)

Wolf Alice will be live at the Showbox Sodo on Thursday, October 13! Someone wrote, "The song is brilliant, and the video clip gives me such a moving and powerful message. As a personal interpretation, it made me think that you shouldn't be afraid of being yourself. If it doesn't affect anyone negatively, you should be brave to do whatever makes you happy. Maybe some people may laugh at you or think you're a fool (e.g., when the crowd rejects to join in), but by showing who you really are, you may lighten up some other people's mood, just like the man who joins in singing. The end is sublime and brought a tear to my eye. We're all human, after all.": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEfxTD13eLM
