In the Surface Noise
by Archers of Loaf

Archers Of Loaf will be back this fall with their first new album in 24 years. Reason in Decline is due Oct. 21. Vocalist/guitarist Eric Bachman: “The pandemic was bad for a person like me, who has always used music as therapy but also to make a living. I knew that an angry rock record was going to come out, but I didn’t know it was going to be Archers until the third or fourth song with the tempos all above 120 beats per minute.” https://archersofloaf.bandcamp.com/track/in-the-surface-noise

In a 2005 interview, lead singer Eric Bachmann reflected on this album: "When we first came out we had that energy. It's a weird thing that you can't put your finger on... I listened to Icky Mettle, and I almost cringe when I hear it. But what the people probably liked when they heard that record was the energy we were putting out." Icky Mettle ranked number 32 in Pitchfork's original Top 100 Albums of the 1990s list https://archersofloaf.bandcamp.com/album/icky-mettle-deluxe-reissue

The latest from Alvvays, who will be at The Moore Theatre in Seattle with Slow Pulp on Saturday, October 22nd. The band ran into multiple obstacles over the past few years -- global pandemic, a basement flood that ruined almost all of their gear, a theft of their demos from Molly Rankin's apartment, and border closings that prevented rehearsals. Nevertheless, they are back! Learn more about the new album here: https://alvvays.bandcamp.com/album/blue-rev

"I was surprised at people's positive reaction to Rid of Me. I liked it but I thought it was a very...difficult album. I thought people who had the first album wouldn't like it." - PJ Harvey for the Guardian

The Rip
by Porridge Radio
(14 plays) | (0 fans)

Porridge Radio will be at Barboza on September 13th! Here’s what Porridge Radio member Dana Margolin had to say about the song: At the beginning it was a song about a power dynamic where I was in control, by the end it was about one where I had none. My friends always accuse me of making up idioms and using them like they are well known phrases and I think this song is full of those. I love the idea of something being sick at the seams, like it’s disintegrating from its core. I like things that are so simple they are universal. I wanted it to sound like when your heart breaks so badly that your entire body aches. I wanted it to feel like your soul is dropping out of your body. https://porridgeradio.bandcamp.com/album/waterslide-diving-board-ladder-to-the-sky https://porridgeradio.com/

Hi John, Getting pumped up for The National with Lucy Dacus at Brewery Ommegang tomorrow night. Brewery Ommegang makes great beer and hosts cool shows just outside of Cooperstown, NY (home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, of course). If you have time to play something by either of them, that would be great. Thanks! Brian from Syracuse

John, Been a long time listener and love your music as a born & raised West Seattleite. Living in the Midwest for the last 3 years and listening to your show every morning at work is what helps me feel so connected to the community I love and miss dearly. Thank you for having a continued positive impact on me and for reminding me I’m not alone always. Please if you have time play: this is the sea - the waterboys. Fell in love with that song from your shows and would be a great addition to my morning! Thanks always! Sam

Bandmember Pete Fijalkowski said of "Homeboy": This was written pre-Adorable when we were called the Candy Thieves, which I had formed in 1988 with my friend Wayne Peters on guitar, when we were on a Film Studies course together at Warwick University. I can still remember the day we wrote it. Wil started playing the bass line, and Kevin joined in on the floor tom. I sang a whole load of lines culled from other discarded songs, Wayne picked some notes, and then when it felt right I stepped on my distortion pedal to make it start feeding back, Kevin sensed it was time to move onto the snare and we all crashed in – it was beautiful. http://www.creation-records.com/20-years-of-adorables-against-perfection/
