NEW MUSIC! Nation of Language covering the classic by The Replacements from 1983's "Hootenanny". It'll drop on 7" vinyl this August, with a surprise single on the B-side! Frontman Ian Devaney states in a press release: “One of the things that made covering ‘Androgynous’ so exciting is that, for me, so much of the original song is carried by Paul Westerberg’s incredible melodies and emotional delivery, and that really leaves a lot of opportunity to imagine new instrumentation. I felt like as long as I was able to channel enough of that emotional power but bring the vocals into my own space, it would be a challenging and worthwhile endeavor.” |

NEW MUSIC! Sharon Van Etten performs at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA on Wednesday, August 3rd alongside Angel Olsen and Julien Baker: https://bit.ly/3PKoThj "I wanted to approach this release differently, to engage my fans in an intentional way, in an effort to present the album as a whole body of work. These 10 songs are designed to be listened to in order, at once, so that a much larger story of hope, loss, longing and resilience can be told." https://bit.ly/3lL01Ir |

'Returning to its Chicago home recording studio the Loft after the forced separation of the early pandemic, Wilco found itself yearning to record new material as a full band rather than tracking every song part by painstaking part... Songs were recorded live, taped as quickly, loosely, and freely as they were written. Soon Wilco had another double album on its hands." "1991 saw the release of Rumor and Sigh by Richard Thompson... it was [his] appearance on David Letterman playing the single "I feel so good" that was my introduction to one of my favorite artists... I would recommend playing "'57 Vincent Black Lightning" from Rumor + Sigh. it's one of RT's best story songs, is played at every one of his live shows, and there's a whole subculture on youtube of aspiring guitarists showing off that they can play it. Thanks," -- Shamus |

Celebrating great music from 1991 for KEXP's 50th Anniversary! -- https://kexp.org/50 MBV's debut and masterpiece that nearly bankrupted Creation Records. Over the course of three years, Shields went through dozens of engineers and set up shop in 19 different studios in an attempt to craft a perfect album. Label owner Alan McGee recalled to Spin in 1999: "I could see my label slipping away. I'd even mortgaged my own house. In the end, I had to emotionally blackmail Kevin to get him to finish." - https://bit.ly/3tj2BcX |
