This got Thundercat nominated for the Best Progressive R&B album! NPR wrote about the music video, "Thundercat has dropped off the all-too-necessary video for "Dragonball Durag," the second single off his upcoming album 'It Is What It Is.' Directed by Zack Fox, who seems to have filmed the whole thing on an iPhone and edited it in iMovie, the visuals deliver an important PSA: Modern funk's greatest songwriter is lonely. What's the point of dressing immaculately — in a floral kimono top, sparkling Gucci belt and radiant red shorts — with no one to show it off to?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ormQQG2UhtQ |

In late February 2021, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak announced on social media the formation of their new band, Silk Sonic, and revealed the artwork for their debut studio album, An Evening with Silk Sonic (2021). They also announced the release of the first single, Leave the Door Open, on March 5, 2021. The duo teased new music in the months leading up to the release of "Skate." Mars has confessed that the track "came about as part of thought exercise in the studio" as he and his team were imagining if they were performing a song "in the middle of a roller rink" and what the bass, the guitar, and the drums would sound like. Mars added, "And I wanted to play congas and that's what you get. You get a song called "Skate". Talking about I'm trying to float. I'm trying to glide." https://bit.ly/3Friz7V |

Hatchie's thoughts on her hew record: “My last record I wanted people to sing along to,” she says. “This one was more about something you can move to. After kind of floating through young adulthood, I realised a lot of the things I'd been missing out on by under-appreciating myself. It's led me to making different decisions not only in regards to my music but also my personal life, the way I dress, the way I socialise, the way I treat my body etc.” https://hatchie.bandcamp.com/album/giving-the-world-away https://www.hatchie.net/ |

This LA-via-Chicago artist’s debut album is an impressive set of atmospheric R&B inflected at times with dream-pop, Afrobeats and other styles. Executive produced by Luke Titus and featuring production from Steve Lacy, Kaytranada, Sango, Foushee and other notables, the album combines pillowy synths, fluid guitars and often-imaginative beats with Lenae’s supple, breathy vocals and lyrics of love, desire and heartache. |

Santigold is back with her first solo release since 2018. "I called this song "High Priestess" because this song was about my greatness," Santigold said in a press release. "I needed to be a witness to myself at that point, calling out my own power, my own fortitude, my own wisdom, because I felt like I had become disconnected from it, having been stripped out of the rhythm of life that I had cultivated for myself, and thrust into this smaller, one dimensional version of myself, grounded and isolated for too long. The lyrics are fun though, rap lyrics in general, boastful, cocky, but that’s what I was talking about underneath it all.” |
