Celebrating 50 years of KEXP/KCMU, with a special focus on 1992 this week! Arcwelder formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1988. The band, a perennial local favorite, consists of brothers Rob and Bill Graber and Scott Macdonald, all of whom share in the tasks of songwriting and singing. Under their original name Tilt-A-Whirl, the band released their first album, This, in 1990 on the small Minneapolis label Big Money, Inc. As the record was being released, the band was sued for trademark infringement by Sellner Manufacturing, the manufacturer of the Tilt-A-Whirl amusement ride. Rather than go to court, the band changed their name to Arcwelder, the title of an instrumental on the record. Denise Chaila is an Irish and Zambian rapper, singer, poet, grime and hip hop artist based in Limerick. Chaila was born at Chikankata-Mazabuka District, Zambia, and her family moved to Ireland when she was aged three, when her father, a doctor, was offered a position at a hospital in Dublin. The family later moved to Limerick. She attended the Kings Hospital Secondary School in Palmerstown and went on to study English literature and sociology at the University of Limerick. Following on 2018's High As Hope, Florence Welch describes her fifth album as "a fairytale in 14 songs." The decade-defining Brit began working on the album in March 2020 with super-producer Jack Antonoff in New York. But the pandemic forced her to retreat to London, where she continued tinkering with the music, including "My Love." Florence ended up co-writing/co-producing the track with Dave Bayley, frontman of Hottest 100 toppers Glass Animals (who are currently #1 in the US with 'Heat Waves').
