One Easy Thing
by TV Priest

Singer Charlie Drinkwater says “Writing ‘One Easy Thing’ was key to unlocking a more direct and personal approach to our songwriting. It’s about dealing with the small things of everyday life; the anxiety, pressures, and battles inside your own headspace - and not being afraid to show this in our songs.” https://tvpriest.bandcamp.com/track/one-easy-thing

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
by Devo
(125 plays) | (1 fan)

Devo played their cover of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" for Mick Jagger before releasing it and described the experience to The New Yorker saying, “He was just looking down at the floor swirling his glass of red wine. He didn’t even have shoes on, just socks and some velour pants. He suddenly stood up and started dancing around on this Afghan rug in front of the fireplace." And that's how they knew he approved of their rendition. Read more here: https://bit.ly/2V3k20P

17 18 19

New record from Ibibio Sound Machine out March 25th - https://www.stereogum.com/2178665/ibibio-sound-machine-17-18-19/music/ Here’s what the crew had to say about "17 18 19": This is more of a traditional style Ibibio Sound Machine track which came out of a studio jam we had. Eno’s vocal is based around a Nigerian playground chant that seemed to fit perfectly with the playful sound of the instrumental. The lyrics are rhetorically questioning the seemingly meaningless words that come out of the mouths of people, with reference to certain world events of the day. We reworked the drum track with Hot Chip, taking it down more of a post-punk route with a bit of a nod to Tom Tom Club.

Melt Yourself Down have never been fully attached to a particular scene or sound, but this ability to stand out has allowed them to survive. As musician Pete Wareham puts it: “We don’t fit the archetype. For too long this has felt like a problem, now we have the opportunity to say: We don’t fit in, we’re in the cracks, we’re ourselves.” Of the single, Gaya adds: “In everything I create there is a tension between wanting to fit in, to feel included and the fear of losing my culture or forgetting where I am from. The refusal to fit in whatever narrative an African man of Asian appearance should play in western society. I started not really caring so much, not second-guessing myself or my vocals so much, which was a huge hurdle to overcome.” https://www.clashmusic.com/news/melt-yourself-down-announce-new-album-pray-for-me-i-dont-fit-in

Lady With the Spinning Head (ex...
by U2

Edge talks about the track and what it became in U2 by U2: There was a song called ‘Lady With the Spinning Head’ which we were really struggling with. It eventually ended up as a B-Side. But we tried and failed to develop it so many times. It actually spawned three different songs, “The Fly,” “Ultraviolet (Light My Way)” and “Zoo Station”. If you ever listen to “Lady With the Spinning Head” you will hear elements of all of those songs. “Zoo Station” was a version that we took in a more industrial direction. Danny provided an incredibly mad intro which sounds like a keyboard but is in fact guitar on which I’m creating strange textures.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik is a British Cyberpunk New Wave Music band whose main run was from 1986 to 1988. The band was formed by Tony James, ex-bassist of the defunct Generation X, and Neal X (Whitmore), who recruited singer Martin Degville. Degville was a clothes designer and supplied the band's wardrobe, and YaYa, the store where he worked, became the band's base.

Lucius’ latest is called “Dance Around It,” and it features Sheryl Crow and Brandi Carlile, the latter of whom also produced Second Nature alongside Dave Cobb. Here’s what Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe had to say about the track: In many ways “Dance Around It” cracked the intention for the entire record; to dance through the darkness. To take what may have been isolating and internal, and instead, make it loud, and put it on display — give it legs to dance. When we brought it to the studio, we asked our dear friends and collaborators (pinch me) Sheryl Crow and Brandi Carlile to sing with us; they were so present and instrumental during the writing and recording of our record — and hearing them sing on this track felt like dancing through that last part of a dark tunnel. Lucius will be at the Gorge with Brandi Carlile on June 11th

The lyrics to "Not Enough Time" were originally intended for another composition from Welcome To Wherever You Are, which later became the album's opening song 'Questions'. The original version can be heard on the 2002 remaster of the album.

Unnecessary Drama

New Belle and Sebastian!!! https://belleandsebastian.bandcamp.com “The song is about a young person experimenting in being a human again after a forced hiatus,” frontman Stuart Murdoch shared in a statement. That’s not an uncommon theme in art at the moment, but Belle and Sebastian take the idea of returning to life as we once knew it and dig in from a slightly different angle. When all the things that make us human — all the routines, the ways of developing relationships, the communal experiences — are stripped away, what’s really left? “Between trouble and nothing, we still choose the trouble,”

Born Of Frustration

Tim Booth talked about the trouble with recording "Frustration": "I knew 'Seven' was going to get panned, because 'Gold Mother' had been received so well and we’d broken through on it in Britain. And you know in England you’re not allowed two in a row. And I just knew it. And then I did walk into that dumb thing on "Born Of Frustration" where I did those "la-la-las." And I hadn’t heard Simple Minds. We recorded it, and Mark and Saul from James took me into a room before we mixed it and played me Simple Minds, and I went, 'Oh, f---.' They said 'Do you want to change it?' And I said, 'Well, I honestly came on this unconsciously.' And Iggy Pop did la-la-las, which I’m much more likely to have been influenced by. So I left it in, because I figured, James had a rule – no conscious influences are allowed, but you’re allowed unconscious ones. And I think that’s where we suddenly got hit on that record, that 'James are trying to be Simple Minds' – in that one moment on that one song. And it was like, 'Aren’t you even listening to the record?'" https://bit.ly/3KowC1X We're celebrating 50 years of KEXP with a journey back to 1992! https://kexp.org/50

After writing new material in their practice space, the band began recording at The Manor Studios. The sessions lasted for several months, with the band producing the proceedings themselves. After a lack of progress their label, Fontana halted the sessions, and sent them to work at Olympic Studios with Youth. Half of the songs were produced by Youth, while the remainder was produced between James and Steve Chase.
