Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio will play The Crocodile on Friday, February 4th, 2022, before departing on a tour of Europe. Their new album, "Cold as Weiss," will be out on February 11th. -- This single was humorously inspired by guitarist Jimmy James. $payforhaiti
by KAYTRANADA feat. Mach‐Hommy
(23 plays) | (0 fans)

Kaytranada's new track "$payforhaiti" works as both a reference to his renowned Griselda project from earlier this summer and a PSA for putting financial support behind one's well wishes. Following the assassination of the former Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, Mach-Hommy spoke on the political turmoil in Haiti, saying, "To me, it’s a broken record that’s on repeat. So when I call my family, it’s the same conversation. A lot of people are extremely depressed more than anything at the recent events." https://bit.ly/3DiDpFu

Black Water Gold
by Blue Rhythm Combo
(1 play) | (0 fans)

The Blue Rhythm Combo from Barbados produced some of the heaviest funk records to come out of the Caribbean in the early '70s - crossing the local Spouge rhythm with a heavy dose of American styled funk and soul. Their singles on the Merrydisc label have long been sought after by DJs for their unique musical blend and tight-as-a-whip rhythms that stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best party funk to come out of the United States.

Black Qualls
by Thundercat feat. Steve Lacy...
(81 plays) | (0 fans)

"No more living in fear..." Thundercat said, "Steve Lacy titled this song. 'Qualls' was just a different way of saying 'walls.' And black walls in the sense of what it means to be a young black male in America right now. A long time ago, black people weren't even allowed to read. If you were caught reading, you’d get killed in front of your family. So growing up being black – we're talking about a couple hundred years later – you learn to hide your wealth and knowledge. You put up these barriers, you protect yourself....You gotta know who you are. It's about this idea that it's okay to be okay."

Sweat Forever
by Lily Konigsberg
(8 plays) | (0 fans)

From BandCamp: Lily Konigsberg wrote “Sweat Forever" in the heat of a moment when her life felt upside down and a longtime relationship was ending. “I’m still here / Is that what you wanted?” she sings, with light and clarity that belies the true sadness of that sticky refrain. The song is propelled by the feathery strum of a 12-string guitar (one gifted to her while she was working at the Gym, a Brooklyn mutual-aid hub), her playful vocal asides, and crisp, detail-oriented production by Nate Amos (Water From Your Eyes, My Idea). https://lilykngsbrg.bandcamp.com/album/lily-we-need-to-talk-now

You Were Too Good to Be True
by Gary Wilson
(1 play) | (0 fans)

You Think You Really Know Me did not gain substantial attention upon its initial 1977 release. Though re-released again in 1979, to little fanfare, the album eventually gained a cult following. Beck namechecked Wilson in his 1996 song "Where It's At", one of his biggest hits.
