New music from Beach House (..at last!) "Superstar compares a failed relationship to a falling star. The first verse sets the tone for its end but throughout the song, the protagonist somewhat wrestles with the reality and reflects on how it was ‘something good’. So while the relationship is over, it was beautiful and to refer to the other as Superstar, suggests there is still love for the other. Bassist Chris White wrote this song. In The Guardian (February 22, 2008), he explained: "Beechwood Park is a real place. My father owned a general store in Hertfordshire and he used to deliver to a private girls' school called Beechwood Park. I remember driving round there and seeing steam rising off the road in the summer after rain." |

"Superstar" follows a protagonist who leaves their life behind to pursue fame. Rose explains: "To me, there’s both humor and horror in hubris and what it takes in order to be successful. I wanted to make a story out of those parts of myself that I find largely undesirable and embarrassing, then inject them with steroids." She goes on to say the goal is to "have people, including myself, not know whether to love or hate this person.
