Aeon Station is a new project from Kevin Whelan of Wrens. 'Observatory' will be out on December 10th on Sub Pop Records. Discussing the new single, Whelan said: This song was inspired by one of my all-time favorite songs, "The Winner Takes it All" by ABBA. It’s about betting on the real you. Like a game of high-stakes poker, you push all your chips to the center of the table and aren’t afraid to go “all in.” https://bit.ly/3DyMEm4 https://aeonstation.bandcamp.com/

U&ME
by Alt-J
(45 plays) | (0 fans)

alt-J and Portugal, The Man with special guest Cherry Glazerr will be at the WaMu Theater in Seattle on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022. https://bit.ly/3CA0F1e Cheryl selected this new song from alt-J as a KEXP Song of the Day earlier this month. The lead single off their forthcoming album 'The Dream', “U&ME” hits all the notes that alt-J fans search for. Groovy percussion - check. Blissed out guitar riffs - you know it. A woozy melody - gotta have it. A nostalgic repeating chorus with slightly esoteric verses - wouldn’t be alt-J without em. “It’s about being at a festival with your best friends, having a good time, togetherness, and the feeling in life that nothing could be any better than it is right now,” explains keyboardist/vocalist Gus Unger-Hamilton. The video, directed Unger-Hamilton’s brother, Prosper, captures that sort of bonding-with-the-buds feeling by featuring the band ripping at the skatepark. Kicks are flipped, blood is shed, and - wait - concrete is floating? Just a typical day with the guys! Wow

These talented young musicians from Hermosillo, Mexico were just in Seattle for Freakout Fest last weekend and stopped by KEXP to perform a session in the Live Room. They opened with "Wow". By the end of the last song, the band was on the floor, grinding away on their guitars. In fact, Rafael broke two strings on his guitar and Carolina broke a bass string. SWEET75
by Sleigh Bells
(14 plays) | (0 fans)

Sleigh Bells recently performed live in the KEXP studio. What a session!! They opened with "SWEET75". Check it out here: https://youtu.be/fWFe51ARsWA Sleigh Bells is a duo made up of elementary-school-teacher-turned-vocalist Alexis Krauss and heavy metal dabbling guitarist Derek Miller, is largely revered as the artist behind the most hip, renegade songs in countless teen movies from the 2010s — "Kids" and "Crown on the Ground" to name a few. "Aren’t you a little too old for rock and roll?" jokingly sings Krauss on "Sweet75," the dynamic opener complete with thumping drums and heavy bass. The sharp guitar riffs coupled with saccharine vocals make for a jarring soundscape, but it’s one that longtime fans of Sleigh Bells will find comforting and familiar. 'Texis' is a smorgasbord of eclectic new sounds that transcend genres, rooting itself in the shocking yet undeniably catchy nature of Sleigh Bells’ early work. It doesn’t quite pack the same punch as 'Treats' or 'Reign of Terror', but the album still has its own distinct charm in its curiosity and unpredictable song structure. https://bit.ly/3lSEcq0 https://sleighbells.bandcamp.com/album/texis

Wrong Time
by Julia Shapiro
(3 plays) | (0 fans)

Shapiro speaks about the new song in a press release: “I wrote this song in June 2020, after fully coming to terms with the fact that I was now living in LA during a seemingly never-ending global pandemic. This song is about being cursed, but not fully admitting it—fighting hard to keep your life together, against all odds, and cursing yourself even further in the process. I started the song with an acoustic guitar playing the B and high E strings super fast, soaked in reverb and delay. I ended up holding onto the original guitar I recorded for the demo, because I felt so attached to it. It just sort of sets the tone for the song.” Read more about the song and the video for "Wrong Time": https://bit.ly/3HBRaCA Watch the Colby Makin-directed video here: https://youtu.be/SRP_NCauXtw https://juliashapiro.bandcamp.com/album/zorked
