You Get What You Give

EVERY time you play "You Get What You Give" I cry and feel so much joy at the same time. MUSIC! Thanks, John, from Houston. -Jamie -- The frontman of The New Radicals, Gregg Alexander, decided it was time for the band to break up after one album because he essentially figured they'd never come out with another hit as good as "You Get What You Give." https://www.distractify.com/p/what-happened-to-the-new-radicals

For Chris in Olympia -- Micah writes: Damn, John. Twice this week you've made me bawl on my morning run. The people of Northeast PDX get to see my tears mid-10k... no apologies! There's nothing more cathartic than crying during a run. Fearless in memory of the cyclist in Seattle was amazing. Thank you. You're not alone! I lost my dad 5 years ago last week to cancer. Your show is inspiring. Cheers,

Fearless
by Pink Floyd

"Good morning. I just found out that a good friend passed in his sleep last night. He had been battling cancer for the passed 3 years and had been in a hospice the past month. Max was such a bright light. He was a fixture in the cycling community in seattle and beyond. Max was loved by many and will be missed. Max was quick to smile, quick to laugh and had a air about him that would make anyone feel at ease. I would love to hear Fearless by Pink Floyd. Fearless is what he was the last couple months. Thanks. - Lawrence "

"What's up John and Owen, Well it's Tuesday. But this is the best Tuesday in awhile because it's the one in which I get to celebrate two years of marriage to the wild, the wonderful, the inspiring McKenzie. I was going to request our wedding song Wildflowers, but considering I saw you played that yesterday and how precious time is, how about one of her favorite songs of all time: Neil Diamond's Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show Hot August night....And the leaves hanging down....And the grass on the ground smelling sweet... See you later, Dukes" Happy anniversary!

This Year
by The Mountain Goats

"This is a song about how sometimes you are living in a house and you're in high school and your stepfather is abusing your mother and you, and it really sucks. You have to take a lot of drugs to deal with that, right, but you don't have to, I should say. But you probably do. And when you do, they make you feel marginally better but the main thing that makes you feel better is the company of other people who are as damaged as you are or will shortly become as damaged as you are, and you can sense it, because there is an internal sensor if you bear some damage, you have this sensor that says 'That person is either damaged or is getting there, and I think I will hang out with her until things get a little brighter.' I play this for a lovely person who wore a cape to school." -- John Darnielle 2011-03-30 - Bowery Ballroom - New York, NY
