BLK JKS defy description. With a wrecking crew rhythm section, debonair vocals, and guitar concoction of one part shred and two parts soul, BLK JKS shoot an African music sensibility through the tenets of rock. https://secretlycanadian.com/artist/blk-jks/ |

Davila 666 frontman AJ Davila will release a new album, El Mar, on September 10 via Hotel Records. The album features Crocodiles (whose Brandon Welchez co-produced), Kate Clover, and more. The first single from the album is El Mar's very catchy title track. "The song is basically a dream, it is the journey to awaken the soul," AJ tells us. "Sometimes that process is dark and gloomy but in the end there is always light." https://www.brooklynvegan.com/aj-davila-davila-666-preps-new-album-listen-to-el-mar/ |

Dave Greenfield, the keyboardist for the influential post-punk band The Stranglers, died on Sunday, May 3, 2020, after contracting Covid-19. The talented musician had just celebrated his 71st birthday on March 29th. In a statement the band wrote, “Dave had been an ever present in the band since joining in late 1975, and his keyboard wizardry was world-renowned over his 45 year career in The Stranglers. He was a lovable, friendly and eccentric character who always had time to chat.” https://kexp.org/read/2020/5/4/rip-dave-greenfield-keyboardist-stranglers/ |

The Toronto rapper Shad has become known as a radio and TV host, but he is primarily an old-school hip hop musician. Literate wordplay, layers of obscure samples, and a big sound colored by soul and rock, are all part of the Shad sound. For his new single, called “Storm,” he collaborates with soul singer Phoenix Pagliacci and Toronto’s former Poet Laureate George Elliott Clarke. Shad's new song, "Storm" will be on his next album, called Tao. Read more here: https://www.newsounds.org/story/shad-storm-weekly-music-roundup |
