Good afternoon, happy Wednesday, and welcome to The Afternoon Show with the inimitable Larry Mizell, Jr.! Thanks so much for listening! -- After making a name among Melbourne’s electronic underground, musician and producer Mike Katz released his first music under the nom de plume Harvey Sutherland. "Superego" was released in 2020 with the following description: "Produced in self-imposed confinement at his velvet-lined studio bunker, Harvey gives the band some time off and goes inside his own head for a while. File under: Neurotic Funk.": https://harveysutherland.bandcamp.com/album/superego

"After years of toying with her sound, Soberish, released June 4, comes as a refreshing return to the more seminal sounds of Liz Phair...With a mature perspective from experiencing hookups, divorce, motherhood and almost 30 years of trying to give women more voice in a male-dominated industry, Phair continues to do what she does best: unleashing her deep-rooted truth." Buy the Banter
by Miss Grit
(9 plays) | (0 fans)

Miss Grit, is the project of Korean-American musician Margaret Sohn. “Buy the Banter” is a pitiless, almost Machiavellian analysis of power relations: “Our work pays the water tank for nothing,” she growls, willing herself rather opaquely to keep playing the ruling class’ games. Rather than divulging intimate feelings, or probing past events with serrated humor, her preferred strategy is to let pointed mantras accumulate weight and then dissolve through repetition. https://bit.ly/3t1emlb -- https://missgrit.bandcamp.com/album/impostor

Nilüfer Yanya released the music video for her song, ‘Day 7.5093’ in December 2020. The clip is an ode to days gone by, featuring a compilation of tour and holiday footage interspersed with scenic B-roll clips. “Making this video and going through old footage was fun to remember all the memories again and the laughs we had while out on the road. Looking forward to being back but for now I hope you enjoy ‘Day.7.5093’ and maybe even recognise a venue or festival and can relive those moments. We will be back!” https://bit.ly/3b7qtHx -- To view the video, go here: https://youtu.be/BeIg69tBaEk -- https://niluferyanya.bandcamp.com/album/feeling-lucky

Bruja de Brujas
by Y La Bamba
(2 plays) | (0 fans)

Y La Bamba is an eclectic indie folk pop band from Portland, OR lead by Luz Elena Mendoza. “Music is an extension of everything I have inside. It’s how I emote,” Mendoza says. The raw honesty of Mujeres is in fact the raw honesty of Mendoza. Armed with the emotionality of traditional música mexicana and the storytelling of American folk, Y La Bamba’s artistry is not just their musical ability but Mendoza’s search for unadulterated truth. It is in an ancestral, spiritual journey in which Mendoza comes to terms with the influence and limitations of her upbringing. Love Is
by Aaron Frazer
(2 plays) | (0 fans)

Released in February 2021. "The music of Aaron Frazer feels a bit like stepping into a time machine: It's got touches of Curtis Mayfield and Carole King, but it's also very much of this moment. The Baltimore native, who's best known for playing drums and singing in the band Durand Jones & the Indications, says he was in the middle of making dinner one day when he got a call from Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, asking if they could make a record together." Read more about it here... https://www.nhpr.org/post/introducing-aaron-frazer-contemplates-love-and-road-ahead#stream/0 Aaron Frazer performed at The Jalopy Theatre in Brooklyn in March 13, 2021, recorded exclusively for KEXP.
