Recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, the music for this song came out of a jam session where the band switched instruments. Bass player Tina Weymouth ended up on rhythm guitar, keyboard player Jerry Harrison played keyboard bass, and David Byrne manned the Prophet-5 synthesizer, making the space-y sounds by turning the modulation wheel. "It's a very comforting song," drummer Chris Frantz said. "I think people listen to it and it kind of warms their hearts because it's a song with a happy and secure message. I love that song myself. It's really sweet - quite an accomplishment for a band such as ours." https://bit.ly/3uxr0Jk

4Runner
by Rostam
(11 plays) | (0 fans)

New music from Rostam Batmanglij who you may know as a founding member/producer of Vampire Weekend. "‘4Runner’ captures the intimate thrill of a road trip with someone special,” Rostam said of the track in a release. “A 12-string acoustic guitar and booming percussion match the sunshine and breeze of a drive across the West Coast, a queer love story unfolding alongside it. Isolated from the outside by car doors and a blaring stereo, they experience the euphoric aura of the sun and wind from within a world that is theirs alone.” https://bit.ly/3uxXumV https://matsor.bandcamp.com/album/changephobia

girl in red is the Norwegian singer-songwriter Marie Ulven. Of this collaboration, Van Etten said in a press release: “Even though we weren’t super close, I always felt supported by Angel and considered her a peer in this weird world of touring. We highway high-fived many times along the way…. I finally got the courage in June of 2020 to reach out to see if she would want to sing together. I got greedy and quickly sent her a track I had been working on.” https://pitchfork.com/news/sharon-van-etten-and-angel-olsen-share-video-for-new-song-like-i-used-to-watch/

Cranekiss
by Tamaryn
(77 plays) | (0 fans)

With 'Cranekiss' Tamaryn's sonic palette has exploded with maniacal abandon, pressed into service of a post-adolescent love letter to all the music that she and her collaborators hold dear, drawing influences from the feelings that fell out of her. 'Cranekiss' explores dark rock, dance pop, and glistening melancholy with a uniformly commanding presence across it all, in stormy, unsettled brushstrokes that apply pressure behind Tamaryn’s words. 'Cranekiss' represents a long journey, and a new phase in Tamaryn’s music unfolding before you, a blood-red kaleidoscope of desire and late night abandon, a bold step forward. https://tamaryn.bandcamp.com/album/cranekiss -- Back in 2013, Tamaryn performed live in the Bumbershoot Music Lounge. Musician and producer St. Vincent is out with her sixth solo studio album, Daddy’s Home. It was inspired by the music of the '70s. Cheryl Waters sat down with Annie Clark to discover why she was drawn to this era, how she trained to capture the specific chords and harmonies, and why the ‘70s still feel relevant a half-century later. https://www.kexp.org/read/2021/5/20/wulitzer-backing-singers-and-going-blonde-st-vincent-70s-and-her-new-album-daddys-home/ -- https://stvincent.bandcamp.com/album/daddys-home

Answering Machine
by The Replacements
(30 plays) | (0 fans)

The Replacements came to be in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1979 and released the famous, 'Let It Be' in 1984. Paul Westerberg often railed against the coldness and distance-enhancing aspects of modern conveniences and technology. It seemed almost quaint later on when such devices became omnipresent. But in the early to mid-'80s, answering machines were not deemed as essential to daily life. Westerberg, though, is onto something larger than his problems with the machine; that just masks a larger truth. As with most of his almost-Luddite and contrarian songs, the starting point for "Answering Machine" is one of life's small details that comes to represent a gaping divide between people who wall themselves off from each other, oftentimes deliberately. https://bit.ly/3bZ3O0e
