Guitarist Jimmy James recently told American Songwriter about the process of recording. The band was able to write and record their latest LP prior to the 2020 COVID-19 shutdowns. The members didn't know it at the time, but recording the new record was one of the last opportunities they’d have to be in a room to work out the parts. Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway were known for their previous collaboration on the eponymous 1972 million-selling duet album, "Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway". This song was intended for a second duets album. On January 13, 1979, Hathaway and Flack had recorded two duets - "Back Together Again" and "You Are My Heaven" - the latter the last song Hathaway would ever record. After dinner at Flack's residence in the Dakota, Hathaway returned to his suite on the fifteenth floor of Essex House, later fatally falling from window of his suite. |
