The Top Album of 2020 as voted by KEXP's awesome listeners! "In the past I’d often tell myself, 'This other person is going through something worse than I am, so their pain weighs more,'" said Jessica Dobson of the track. "'Impossible Weight’ is about finding more compassion for yourself, instead of discrediting your pain in that way." Speaking about collaborating with Sharon Van Etten, she added that she wrote the song shortly after seeing the musician perform at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle, a venue that features in the video. https://bit.ly/3dhJ9WX Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/xzkr2i6Szy8 |

In a 1994 interview, it was suggested that "Seether" could either be about female "animalistic instincts" or bouts of rage. Vocalist Nina Gordon agreed that her songs' meanings often changed during and after the writing process. "You write a song, think it's about one thing for five minutes....and discover that it's about many different things and working on many different levels." |

David West's power-pop project Rat Columns are based out of Perth, Australia -- their fourth album drops on Feb 12, with engineering by Griffin Harrison and DW, and mixing from Mikey Young. In a statement, the band describes the album as "plunging headfirst into an azure sea of power pop, rock’n’roll and indie. The tones are bright and optimistic, though fans of confusion and gloom will still find solace in the album’s darker moments, of which there are a few. Happy 25th birthday to Denzel Curry, who is featured on this Avalanches track. This album was inspired by the relationship between astronomer Carl Sagan and producer Ann Druyan, whose photo is on the album’s cover. The two worked on the PBS series Cosmos together, and their relationship was immortalized in NASA’s Voyager Golden Record. "The conceptual heart of things is really important to me," the Avalanches’ Robbie Chater said in a press release. "I can’t just be blindly creative, I need to find a feeling and a deeply personal place that gives me the energy to start making a record and a story to share. Wildflower changed so much over 16 years, whereas with this album, we knew what it was about right at the beginning, and then we did it, and it’s done." https://bit.ly/3sMqibH |

For the video, according to collaborator Randy Lee Maitland, who cameos in a jumpsuit engulfed in haze, Andrew VanWyngarden and MGMT cohort Ben Goldwasser play characters with varying dynamics that represent different aspects of the band. VanWyngarden is a vampire haunted by beauty, while the work-driven Goldwasser wants peace and quiet. They're living in a haunted mansion, and the music video captures what happens when people get caught between the emotional poles.:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtL5oMyBHPs |

The second EP from this solo project of California-based musician Paul Castelluzzo is a strong set of melancholic guitar-pop and woozy psych-pop that recalls the likes of Woods, Real Estate, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. |

Debut album from Tokyo-based artist Nana Yamato. She makes music that’s reportedly influenced by daydreams as much as the quotidian bustle of a major city, music that’s insular and personal but derived from an indie rock awakening after spending time discovering artists in a Harajuku record store. |

This London-based band’s fourth album is an expansive blend of jangly psych-pop, dance-friendly electro-pop, driving post-punk and more, combining acoustic and electric guitars, bright synths and often-propulsive rhythms with soaring pop hooks and lyrics revolving around escape. |

This London-based artist’s debut album is a promising set of retro-leaning, jazz-tinged R&B that’s reminiscent at times of Adele along with Amy Winehouse, featuring a warm, soulful sound with acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, horns, strings and more accompanying her dynamic, smoky vocals and lyrics of love, loss and autonomy. |

The debut album from French multi-instrumentalist/producer Jean Dasso (aka Yeahman) is an excellent set of transportive electronic grooves that carry a dreamy worldly touch. Named for the Ostriconi valley in Corsica, France and inspired by his travels within the tranquil and picturesque region, Yeahman's sonic explorations revel in a lush, organic, and lightly pulsating zone. |
