Sad Cowboy
by Goatgirl
(18 plays) | (0 fans)

When Goat Girl were signed to Rough Trade in 2016, they were still teenagers, and lived and breathed the DIY spirit. Their music, spanning swampy psych-rock, grotbag grunge and unkempt post-punk, spoke to the angst and uncertainty of being young. But Davies’ diagnosis, coupled with the political joyride of the past year – from Black Lives Matter to Brexit – was a wake-up call. "Oh just Brian here in my backyard in Austin, Texas. Just a little snow instead of bluebonnets this year. Would love me some Mark Lanegan this cold morning. Dealer's choice." As with their 2007 album It's Not How Far You Fall, It's the Way You Land, a collaboration with Mark Lanegan and a host of guest vocalists, Broken once again features Lanegan as the primary vocalist, as well as contributions from Bonnie "Prince" Billy (Will Oldham), Jason Pierce (of Spiritualized and Spacemen 3), Mike Patton (of Faith No More), Richard Hawley, and Gibby Haynes (of Butthole Surfers).

Three years ago we lost the “screaming eagle of soul,” Charles Bradley. The beloved soul singer was renowned for his passionate live performances and breathtaking vocals. He performed live on KEXP in 2011 at Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop in Austin, headlined a 2014 Concerts at the Mural Show, and played a powerful Gathering Space performance in 2016. We miss him every day. See the Gathering Space performance: https://youtu.be/Hbn4tTt9624

From Curtis Harding's debut album Soul Power released in 2014. According to Harding, many songs of Soul Power are inspired by relationships with his family and friends. "It's about love, love lost," he said prior to the album's release. "It's about overcoming different things." https://bit.ly/36EwuqN https://curtisharding.bandcamp.com

Shame has a new album out! They accompanied the new track with a video directed by Maxim Kelly. The clip, which repurposes archival footage from old research centres on the development of children, uses deepfake technology, the babies start to lip sync along with the song, while the band cameo as scientists. https://bit.ly/3jOWW8z Watch it here: https://youtu.be/LcE3rsUw3AE https://shame.world/

Remember Me
by The Blueboy
(3 plays) | (0 fans)

The track is built around samples from "Woman of the Ghetto" by Marlena Shaw: "Remember me? I'm the one who had your babies, I", in reference to African-American maids raising white children for little pay, came from a live version, whereas the "ging, gi-gi-gi-gi-ging..." sample repeated throughout the song is the scat portion of the original song's refrain.
