A brand new song from the Seattle eight piece! Guitarist Jimmy James recently told American Songwriter about the process of recording, the band was able to write and record their latest LP prior to the 2020 COVID-19 shutdowns. The members didn’t know it at the time, but recording the new record was one of the last opportunities for some time they’d have to be in a room to work out the parts. Check out the full interview with Jimmy James here: https://americansongwriter.com/sunday-afternoon-the-true-loves-album-interview/ And then head over to the KEXP YouTube channel for an exclusive intimate performance live at The Little London Plane during Upstream Music Fest in 2018: https://youtu.be/I2njMBxlnmM

When writing this track, Brian Wilson envisioned it as an Old West-themed musical comedy. It was the first collaboration between Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks.

This Is America
by Childish Gambino

Frank Guan analyzes the lyrics of “This Is America,” which draw heavily on trap music, a gritty rap subgenre with its origins in Atlanta. “The incongruousness of Glover, raised middle-class and a NYU graduate, bragging about his Mexican drug supplier and threatening to have you gunned down, is intentional,” he writes. “It’s a tribute to the cultural dominance of trap music and a reflection on the ludicrous social logic that made the environment from which trap emerges, the logic where money makes the man, and every black man is a criminal.”: https://www.vulture.com/2018/05/what-it-means-when-childish-gambino-says-this-is-america.html

"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" is a poem and song by Gil Scott-Heron. Scott-Heron first recorded it for his 1970 album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, on which he recited the lyrics, accompanied by congas and bongo drums. The song's title was originally a popular slogan among the 1960s Black Power movements in the United States. Its lyrics either mention or allude to several television series, advertising slogans and icons of entertainment and news coverage that serve as examples of what "the revolution will not" be or do. The song is a response to the spoken-word piece "When the Revolution Comes" by The Last Poets, from their eponymous debut, which opens with the line "When the revolution comes some of us will probably catch it on TV". It was inducted to the National Recording Registry in 2005. https://bit.ly/3ffJDeY

"Black Thought, Pusha T, and Killer Mike are a combined 136 years old, and all three of them have been ripping rap tracks to pieces for decades. On the new song “Good Morning,” all three of them get together and absolutely go nuts, with the help of ace hypeman Swizz Beatz (who pushes the track’s total combined age to 177).": https://www.stereogum.com/2096351/black-thought-good-morning-feat-pusha-t-killer-mike-swizz-beatz/music/
