(5 plays) | (0 fans)

'Happy Days' is the third album by Catherine Wheel, released in 1995. The grinding guitars on this one are so good. Catherine Wheel formed in 1990, by singer-guitarist Rob Dickinson, guitarist Brian Futter, bassist Dave Hawes, and drummer Neil Sims. They took their moniker from the firework known as the Catherine wheel, which in turn had taken its name from the medieval torture device of the same name. https://bit.ly/3oK66ox

Cheryl Waters' double shot of Wolf Parade! Songwriting and vocals are split between guitarist Dan Boeckner and keyboardist Spencer Krug. According to interviews with the band, 'Apologies to the Queen Mary' is named after an incident in which the band was removed from the ocean liner Queen Mary for breaking down the door of a ballroom and staging a violent séance. https://bit.ly/3h4r9xv

Spencer Krug takes 'Expo 86's' first shot with the chatty "Cloud Shadow on the Mountain", a jumpy, almost paranoiac ramble. Read the full Pitchfork review of the 2010 album release here: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14398-expo-86/

Mordechai is the third studio album by Houston, Texas trio Khruangbin. Drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson and bassist Laura Lee discuss how they developed such diverse influences, singing in 16 different languages, and their support for the Black Lives Matter movement. “We see music as a vehicle to highlight those similarities between people so people can stand together, listen to the same music together and experience it,” Laura Lee says. https://www.kexp.org/podcasts/sound-vision/2020/7/2/khruangbins-musical-fusion-aims-unite/ https://khruangbin.bandcamp.com/album/mordechai

Night Fever
by Bee Gees
(2 plays) | (0 fans)

"In 1977, The Bee Gees manager Robert Stigwood was producing a movie about the New York disco scene. The working title of the film was "Saturday Night," so he asked the group to write a song of that name. The Bee Gees thought it was a dumb title, but they had already written a song called "Night Fever." They convinced Stigwood to use that and change the film's title to 'Saturday Night Fever'. The movie became a classic, telling a coming-of-age story in the disco era. It helped launch the film career of John Travolta, who starred as Tony Manero, the conflicted youth who escaped his troubles on the dance floor." https://www.songfacts.com/facts/bee-gees/night-fever This is a fun video to watch: https://youtu.be/SkypZuY6ZvA

"'Agüita', Gabriel Garzón‐Montano's first release for Jagjaguwar, is a sequence of impossibly diverse offerings ranging from trap anthems to string-drenched art pop ballads – a prismatic self-portrait, personal and universal all at once. The artist is present, and he is in final form." https://www.secretlystore.com/aguita-gabriel-garzon-montano https://gabrielgarzonmontano.bandcamp.com/
