Tomo Nakayama's 'Melonday' is one of Cheryl's top albums of 2020. https://www.kexp.org/read/2021/1/5/2020-top-ten-list-spotlight-cheryl-waters/ Seattle musician Tomo Nakayama has spent the entirety of this young millennium building his name on sensitive, intricate, mostly acoustic music in the folk/singer-songwriter realm. But after two critically acclaimed solo albums, he’d hit a particularly long and frustrating creative dry spell. The tried and true process he had honed over the years was no longer working. He needed to clear his palette. The result is 'Melonday'. https://tomomusic.bandcamp.com/album/melonday |

"The members of Talking Heads wanted to make an album that dispelled notions of frontman and chief lyricist David Byrne leading a back-up band. They decided to experiment with African polyrhythms and, with Eno, recorded the instrumental tracks as a series of samples and loops, a novel idea at the time. Additional musicians were frequently used throughout the studio sessions. The lyric writing process slowed Remain in Light 's progress, but was concluded after Byrne drew inspiration from academic literature on Africa. The artwork for the album's cover was crafted with the help of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's computers and designing company M&Co. Following the album's completion, Talking Heads expanded to nine members for promotional concerts." https://bit.ly/39eAksW |

In her words: "[Arlo] spent most of school feeling like that black kid who couldn't dance for sh*t, listening to too much emo music and crushing on some girl in her Spanish class. Her songs are confessional and tender, mainly inspired by Portishead and Earl Sweatshirt." New album January 29th: https://www.arloparksofficial.com/ |
