On a Neck, On a Spit
by Grizzly Bear
(54 plays) | (0 fans)

From Grizzly Bear's second studio album, 'Yellow House,' released in 2006. The album's title refers to vocalist Ed Droste's mother's house where the majority of recording took place. "On a Neck, on a Spit" recalls Jim O'Rourke's freewheeling deconstruction of folk-rock and soft rock. https://www.allmusic.com/album/yellow-house-mw0000569687 Grizzly Bear perform "On a Neck, on a Spit" live for La Blogotheque: https://youtu.be/HqVTx8kAG5o

As featured on Bandcamp Daily last month: Chicago-based experimental vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sen Morimoto wrote a majority of his self-titled sophomore album in transit, and accordingly, the album feels like a portrait of a person stuck between places, both physical and emotional. On the sweeping Chicago crew cut Taste Like it Smells,” alongside Lala Lala, Qari, and Kara Jackson, Morimoto laments the loss of touring. https://daily.bandcamp.com/album-of-the-day/sen-morimoto-self-titled-review https://morimotosen.bandcamp.com/

Long Road Home
by Oneohtrix Point Never
(6 plays) | (0 fans)

Oneohtrix Point Never, a.k.a. Daniel Lopatin, has released a fantastical new video for “Long Road Home.” Co-directed by Charlie Fox and Emily Schubert, the clip features a courtship between two demonic creatures who become one in the end. “It’s a romantic fable about love and transformation, which grew out of a lot of wild philosophical conversations with Dan over the summer,” Fox and Schubert said in a statement. “We wanted to take these supposedly grotesque or demonic creatures and turn them into the weirdly adorable and heartbreaking protagonists of this courtship ritual. For a song that seems to be sung by something mutant and magical in a time when intimacy is craved and feared, it felt like a hot match; it just felt good inside. And all this stuff started oozing out.” https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/oneohtrix-point-never-long-road-home-video-1075329/ “Long Road Home” taken from the new album “Magic Oneohtrix Point Never”: https://youtu.be/w5azY0dH67U https://oneohtrixpointnever.bandcamp.com/

Badala
by Songhoy Blues
(37 plays) | (0 fans)

Desert blues band Songhoy Blues grew out of political anger and civil unrest, with themes in their music inspired by their life experiences of being pushed out of their hometowns of North Mali by a jihadist group. "Badala" translates to "I don't care," highlighting the ultimate meaning behind the track and that it "celebrates that courage, fearlessness & agency through the story of a woman ending her relationship, and choosing her own destiny." https://songhoyblues.com/
