Three requests for this one this morning! In a statement about this single, frontman Ian Devaney noted: “September Again is about struggling with the feeling that with each passing year you’re only becoming a worse version of yourself—less capable of wonder or grand ambition, less sure of your footing in your own life."

Foals frontman, Yannis Philippakis, explained to Consequence of Sound about this song: "Our ancestors built up, progressed and built civilizations and they built amazing cities. And now at the point of precipice where we're kind of in a perilous situation in many ways socially and environmentally, they're not around to help. And we're not adults. Sometimes I'm just like, where are all the adults?"

Recorded sometime between 1995-1996 by Jeff Buckley and the Cocteau Twins Elizabeth Fraser. It would not be finished before Buckley's tragic death in 1997. She told the Guardian in 2009 that while recording Massive Attack's "Teardrop" - "I'd got letters out and I was thinking about him. That song's kind of about him – that's how it feels to me anyway."

Julien Baker joined Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison for vocals on this song, and after his death in May 2018 she stated: "Been trying to find the right words but there are none; Frightened Rabbit’s music had a huge impact on my life, and what interaction we had was always marked by such kindness. My heart is broken for this loss and for those who loved and were close to Scott."
