Never Let You Go

Georgia Barnes is a Londoner, Producer and club-informed forward thinker. The self-titled debut Georgia album was both a statement of intent and an assured presentation of a life consumed by music, one spent alongside friends and accomplices Kate Tempest, Kwes and Micachu. Her 2020 album Seeking Thrills is a record that blossoms into life, animated by Chicago House piano lines, vintage drum machines, and Georgia's bespoke street sass.

New album on 7/31! Singer Grian Chatten has described the self-titled new single as “a list of rules for the self” as well as “principles for self-prescribed happiness that can often hang by a thread. “It’s ostensibly a positive message, but with repetition comes different meanings, that’s what happens to mantras when you test them over and over,” Chatten explains. “There’s this balance between sincerity and insincerity as the song goes on and you see that in the music video as well. The idea was influenced by a lot of the advertising I was seeing – the repetitive nature of these uplifting messages that take on a surreal and scary feel the more you see them.” The new video features 'Game of Thrones' actor Aidan Gillen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLNt8aMNbvY&feature=youtu.be

For You
by India Jordan

Inspired by growing up queer in the North of England, For You documents India understanding and learning about their own identity, and to being kind to themselves in the process (the “You” in the EP’s title is a reference to India). The EP’s six tracks draw from all aspects of India’s musical make-up, from the raw sample-chopping house and high-emotion techno that they first made their name with, to the fast-paced drum’n’bass and happy hardcore of their formative early clubbing experiences. During these times, the best way to support artists is through your direct support via their websites or bandcamp pages: https://indiajordan.bandcamp.com/

Throughout the month of May, KEXP is joining the national celebration of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM). May was declared to be APAHM through congress to commemorate both the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843 as well as the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869. This is a time for all of us to reflect, pay homage, and celebrate Asian and Pacific Islanders in our country, and their amazing feats and contributions to our shared history. Observing this Heritage Month is even more vital given the increase in hate crimes and racism directed towards Asian and Pacific Isander Americans in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. In response, we’re amplifying the voices and art of the communities targeted by xenophobia, sharing stories and performances, and more, all month long. https://www.kexp.org/asian-pacific-american-heritage-month/

On May 8, 2016, Radiohead released their ninth studio album, A Moon Shaped Pool. It was recorded with longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Of this album, Thom Yorke said: "There was a lot of difficult stuff going on at the time, and it was a tough time for us as people. It was a miracle that that record got made at all.” Godrich’s father passed away during the recording process; Yorke announced his separation from his wife, who died of cancer several months after; and Radiohead’s drum tech, Scott Johnson, died in a stage collapse before a show in Toronto in 2012. A Moon Shaped Pool was Radiohead’s fifth album to be nominated for a Mercury Prize. It was also nominated for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Song of the Year (“Burn the Witch”) at the Grammys in 2016. The album was certified gold in the UK on June 24, 2016.

In This Searing Light, the Sun and Everything Else, Jon Savage has assembled three decades' worth of interviews with the principal players in the Joy Division story to create an intimate, candid and definitive account of the band. It is the story of how a group of young men can galvanise a generation of fans, artists and musicians with four chords and three-and-a-half minutes of music. And it is the story of how illness and inner demons can rob the world of a shamanic lead singer and visionary lyricist. I will host Jon Savage in a virtual Songbook Series Event at 12pm PT on KEXP’s Facebook page. https://www.kexp.org/events/kexp-events/songbook-series-searing-light-sun-and-everything-else-joy-division-oral-history/
