Straight Outta Compton
by N.W.A
(78 plays) | (0 fans)

Critics accused the group of glorifying the gangsta lifestyle, but Ice Cube insists they are merely documentarians. He told the Sunday Correspondent Magazine in 1989: "The parents, the police and the people of the local community are scared of what we say. We use the same kind of language as the kids use every day. In the black community, the ministers and teachers don't deny that the problems we rap about exist, but they'd rather sweep it under the rug. Maybe that's why we sell so many records because the people in the community all tell the kids what to do, the police are watching them 24-7, so when they party, they don't want to hear, 'Don't do this and don't do that.' Our raps are documentary. We don't take sides."

Dry
by PJ Harvey
(25 plays) | (0 fans)

The cover of the album depicts Harvey topless and swinging her drenched hair into the air. The photo was captured by Harvey's friend and photographer Maria Mochnacz, and was taken in Mochnacz's bathroom. Due to the small size of the room, she had to place her camera against the wall opposite Harvey and couldn’t look through the camera's viewfinder. The photo was taken in total darkness and only illuminated by the split-second flash.

Hounds Of Love
by Kate Bush
(145 plays) | (1 fan)

The album was recorded in a windowless studio that Bush had constructed in a converted barn near her parents' house in semi-rural East Wickham, south east of London. Kate Bush (from Q magazine): "People commented on how the album seems very elemental. And I can't help but put quite a lot of that down to the fact that I moved out into the country. The visual stimulus coming in was that of fields and trees, and seeing the elements doing their stuff."

Landslide
by Beirut
(13 plays) | (0 fans)

In a letter accompanying the initial album announcement, Zach Condon revealed that the new music is inspired by an experience he had in Italy: “We stumbled into a medieval-fortressed island town of Gallipoli one night and followed a brass band procession fronted by priests carrying a statue of the town’s saint through the winding narrow streets behind what seemed like the entire town, before returning late to Sudestudio.” There’s a medieval vibe in almost all of Condon’s music with Beirut, but it’s especially clear in singles like “Landslide.”

Leopard's Tongue
by Karen O & Danger Mouse
(13 plays) | (0 fans)

Every great partnership has to begin somewhere. For Karen O and Danger Mouse, it was a drunk dial in 2008. At least, that’s how half of this duo featuring the queen of the aughts rock revival and the versatile Grammy-winning producer remembers it. Karen O drew a blank when Danger Mouse (born Brian Burton) brought it up late last month at Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village, where they worked on their new album, “Lux Prima.” “I got this phone call, and you were like, it’s Karen O. I was like, what?” Burton said. His flummoxed collaborator at the other end of the couch slowly recalled what had happened: After years of saying they wanted to work together but only meeting briefly, Karen O had seized the moment. “I get excited about things after a couple of drinks — then I’m like, yeah, I’m going to call him now!” she said.

Sexy Boy
by Air

While the name "Air" might seem to allude to the band's being "light as air," it is actually an acronym which stands for the French words "Amour, Imagination, Rêve" that translates to "love, imagination, dream."
