"I think being creative and falling in love with things and feeling alive are so important, now more than ever. You don’t get to control how much darkness or light exists in the universe, they’re inherently part of the fabric of everything. But we all need art and dancing and joy. 2017 was a very strange year, but I will always think of it as one of my favorites. We were just working and having fun and experimenting. I see no better way to be spending life on the planet than to be playing with things in your life. You have to do something, and our doing is making music. We’re not politicians, we’re not orators. I don’t think we’re lunatics necessarily..." ~ Victoria Legrand https://bit.ly/2Q0J7Y4

Aged 18 years, Gary Webb had fronted London band Mean Street in 1976. After leaving this band, he auditioned as lead guitarist for another band called The Lasers, where he met bass-player Paul Gardiner. The pair left The Lasers soon after and formed Tubeway Army, initially with Webb's uncle Jess Lidyard on drums. Webb rechristened himself "Valerian," Gardiner "Scarlett" and Lidyard "Rael." Soon afterwards, the Tubeway Army album was released on blue vinyl, at which point Webb adopted the name "Gary Numan." Numan actually took his new pseudonym from a local Yellow Pages where a plumber called "Arthur Neumann" was listed, the singer abandoning the German spelling, to become Numan. https://bit.ly/2TimNrG

After his 2010 album Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus continued his creative partnership with bassist Thundercat and worked with him on music that led to the album. For Until the Quiet Comes, he drew on African percussion and psychedelic musical influences, human-subconscious and dream world concepts, and different mixing techniques and dynamics. He recorded for two years at his home in Los Angeles primarily using an Ableton Live sequencer along with other instruments and software, and recorded with guest vocalists including Erykah Badu, Thom Yorke, and Laura Darlington. https://bit.ly/2z8L6zZ

On this new song, one of the 22 previously unreleased tracks on Brainfeeder’s upcoming 10th anniversary comp, Los Angeles-based Thundercat and Toronto's BADBADNOTGOOD explore eerie jazz sounds like something out of a retro horror movie before pivoting to glimmering psychedelic soul. https://bit.ly/2QTPABu

Mind Your Own Business
by Delta 5

The original members of Delta 5, Julz Sale (vocals/guitar), Ros Allen (bass) and Bethan Peters (bass), formed the band "on a lark", but soon became a part of the thriving Leeds post-punk scene, and later added Kelvin Knight on drums and Alan Riggs on guitar. Combining feminist politics with a two-bass funk-punk sound (much in the style of another, more famous Leeds band, Gang of Four), they released their debut single in 1979, "Mind Your Own Business". This song was later covered by Chicks on Speed, Le Shok, R. Stevie Moore, Pigface and Dum Dum Girls. https://bit.ly/2OOXzh1

Mothers' Kristine Leschper reveals, "'Pink' deals with the passage of time. It describes a series of memories within cars - cars of my childhood, recent past, and present - and subsequent feelings of childlike removal and helplessness. The video aims to reciprocate these three vignettes of idling, through limited actions and minimalist set design divided into three parts."
