On touring with The Arctic Monkeys, guitarist Dominic Corse revealed, "We feel like every British person that asks us how supporting Arctic Monkeys was wants us to be like 'It was amazing!’ It was fun and the audience was supportive of us most of the time. We didn’t really hang out with them. The whole thing was a little too big for us. The rooms were too big for us and the Monkeys were very proud, stoic people. We didn’t talk to them much. We weren’t supposed to talk to them much. It was awkward because one or two times we had to through their dressing room to get to our dressing room." http://bit.ly/2tuWm7L |

"There was no thought beforehand of how [this album] was going to be laid out. And I actually didn’t have a say really in the sequencing of the tracks, that was all done by the producer (Bobby Harlow) and our friend Mike Wartella. I wasn’t even at the studio. They put the whole thing together. They lost their minds—they stayed in the dark studio a week straight, not eating, and they just went deep within and came out with that. And then, I couldn’t really argue with it when it was done... It is hard for me to give up the control, obviously. It is really hard having someone craft your vision for you. It can be really frustrating, but it can also be really rewarding. No matter what you just have to have maniacs, you have to work with maniacs no matter what. That’s the key. I only work with maniacs." ~ Kyle Thomas | http://bit.ly/2t9Yfo6 |

Drummer Stephanie Luke, aka Rusty Coathanger, on the most significant thing she's learned in the past decade: "Just keep on moving forward. I woke up the other day and I almost had a panic attack, ’cause it’s like, I’m almost 35, what am I doing? And then I was like, 'You know what? F**k that.” You never really have it figured out. Even my friends who got married and had the house and everything, that doesn’t always last forever. Nothing is guaranteed.'" www.spin.com/2016/04/the-coathangers-nosebleed-weekend-stream-interview/ |

A Dead Moon cover. When asked in a 2009 interview to describe the Vancouver music scene, David Prowse responded, "There are a lot of great bands in Vancouver but there’s just a lot of forces working against them. It’s very isolated; it’s hard to come down the West coast because of the border, and then it’s very far from the next major market in Canada. It’s like twelve hours to the next big city. And it’s Calgary, which is where bad things always seem to happen to us. And there’s no KEXP in Vancouver, that’s for sure. There’s just a lack of venues and there’s a lack of real support for all the great bands that are in Vancouver." Hopefully things have changed since then! When asked how the band got its somewhat curious name, singer-guitarist Jake Snider explained, “A friend of the band had gone on a date, and one of us asked him afterwards how the date went. Our friend said, ‘You know that TV show from the ’70s B.J. and The Bear? It was like that minus the bear.’ That’s the straight truth.” http://bit.ly/1M4sHSf | The local legends came and performed a stunning set in our Gathering Space back in March; check it out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7pRHG-RavA | |

At the same time Weller was working on this album, he was also composing the soundtrack to a British boxing drama called Jawbone. "I know a lot of people my age who are still really stuck in the ’80s or the ’70s, whatever their time was. But as a musician, I like hearing what else is happening, being turned on to whatever it may be. I think it’s good to work with younger musicians, but I also work with people even older than me. The thing is, listen: regardless of age, whenever you meet on a stage or in a studio, it’s a level playing field, whatever your age is. Those people bring their own thing to the party regardless, you know." ~ Paul Weller http://bit.ly/2ttjFPD |

For close to two decades, Beth Orton has walked the line between folk and electronic music far more gracefully than most. Previously an actress and caterer, Orton’s music career began when she bummed a cigarette off of electronic producer William Orbit at a party, resulting in a collaboration that would lay the groundwork for her first two folktronica-leaning albums, 1996’s Trailer Park and 1999’s Central Reservation, both of which received Mercury Prize nominations. According to Pitchfork, Annie Clark previously performed this song at David Lynch’s Festival of Disruption and at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge while dressed as a toilet. Also, never one to rest on her laurels, or even apparently rest, she also made her directorial debut with the short film, The Birthday Party. SVIIB lost Benjamin Curtis, who also performed with Secret Machines and UFOFO, in 2013, but demos of songs he'd written with bandmate and life partner, Alejandra Deheza, were released posthumously in this album. Two years prior to his passing, SVVIB performed a gorgeous set here at KEXP; lose yourself in its beauty here: http://blog.kexp.org/2011/02/16/live-video-school-of-seven-bells/ |

Of this band partnership, KEXP blogger writes, "Sparks fly in the form of warm fuzz and soft melodies when Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis work through marital bliss."
