Oh, Kyle Craft. Kyle's playing this summer's KEXP Concerts at the Mural on August 26th, also known as the day after I leave to head back to college. Heartbreaking. Also on the bill: So talented local jazz group Industrial Revelation. Check out more info here: http://blog.kexp.org/kexp-events/kexp-seattle-center-presents-concerts-at-the-mural-2016/.

A Proper Polish Welcome

Been thinking of this record for the past couple days. A live show that moved me like no other. Mackenzie Scott is an incredible live performer-- such an expressive voice, a unique ability to communicate pure emotion. From her gorgeous 2015 album Sprinter. Check out her set on KEXP: http://blog.kexp.org/2015/06/14/live-video-torres/.

Dreamboat Annie

Playing White River Amphitheater on August 26th. Third single off Heart's debut record, Dreamboat Annie, which came out in 1976. Christgau was pretty mixed on it, but that's alright. Happens to the best of us.

Janie in Love

Playing Barboza on August 8th. Cool new record from Ms. Nadler, titled Strangers. Out on Sacred Bones, and produced by the great local producer/musician Randall Dunn. Strangers is a bit of a departure for Ms. Nadler-- the record has a much fuller, heavily instrumented sound compared to her past albums. Change of pace, but definitely an interesting direction.

How Many Miles Must We March
by Ben Harper

From Ben Harper's first studio album, Welcome to the Cruel World, which came out all the way back in 1994. Ben was just live in the KEXP studios, playing tracks off his latest LP, Call It What It Is. An incredibly powerful performance from the talented Mr. Harper- http://blog.kexp.org/2014/06/24/live-video-joseph-arthur-3/.

Honey And The Moon

Playing The Triple Door on September 15th. Speaking of people that are no stranger to the KEXP studios, Joseph's likely near the top in terms of sheer number of appearances on the KEXP airwaves, in any number of projects. Check out his 2014 set, where he played tracks from his Lou Reed cover LP: http://blog.kexp.org/2014/06/24/live-video-joseph-arthur-3/.

Risto's Riff
by Moonface and Siinai
(14 plays) | (0 fans)

Quite the busy year for members of Wolf Parade-- apart from embarking on a reunion tour later this summer, and releasing a new EP, Spencer Krug put out this Moonface record with Siinai, and then Boeckner put out the Operators record. Wolf Parade has no limits-- so prolific, yet maintain such high level of quality.

Everything and Nothing
by Hammock

Really interesting new music from Nashville duo Hammock, who combine elements of post-rock & ambient music to create their own atmospheric sound. This track is off their new record, Everything and Nothing, which was released back at the start of April.

Control
by Operators

Furthering the argument that Dan Boeckner is one of the most talented people alive. Also one of the coolest-- that guy is one dapper fellow. This track is from the new Operators record, Blue Wave, which was released back at the start of April. Check out Dan & co's set from Iceland Airwaves: http://blog.kexp.org/2016/02/06/live-video-operators-at-iceland-airwaves/.

Into My Arms
by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
(16 plays) | (0 fans)

Still thinking of Nick Cave's son. New album, Skeleton Tree, out on September 9th, for which I could not be more excited. Accompanied by a feature film, One More Time With Feeling, in theaters for one night only on September 8th. Off Nick's amazing tenth studio album, The Boatman's Call-- still an outlier in the extensive Cave catalog.

Seven Swans
by Sufjan Stevens
(28 plays) | (1 fan)

One of Sufjan's most overtly Christian records-- this track in particular uses imagery and events from The Book of Revelation. Various other tracks tell stories directly from The Bible. Another track, "A Good Man Is Hard to Find," is based on the Flannery O'Connor short story of the same name. This Sufjan record has the capacity to wreck me like few others.

Off the third Uncle Tupelo record, March 16-20, 1992, named after the five day period in which it was recorded. Produced by R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck. Jeff Tweedy has said in interviews that of all the songs recorded by Uncle Tupelo, this track ("Sandusky") holds a special place in his heart.
